Delivery and Management of Services
Vangent provides complete design, development, and delivery of both “soft skills” and “hard asset” training services, for civilian and military agencies. We follow a documented Instructional Systems Design (ISD) model to construct the training programmes for our customers. The ISD model defines the process for determining what to teach and how to teach it. The use of a documented, well-defined model helps assure our customers that training will be designed and developed in a predictable, cost-effective manner. Our ISD model includes five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation.Features of our training services include:
Rapid Design Workshop
As the pace of change accelerates, organisations struggle to keep employees informed, trained, and ready to perform. To support these accelerating training requirements, the training industry has developed tools to create training more quickly and to prototype more rapidly. But ultimately good instruction depends on good design, and the thinking that goes into a good design becomes the bottleneck that slows down training development. It just takes time to think through a design, and no tool can speed that up. But there is a process that can, and at Vangent we call that process Rapid Design. To provide a visual distinction, consider the flow of the traditional design process for a course:
This process can take one or more months to complete. And often, each group can end up undoing work from a previous group because they have a different view of the end product. This can cause a repeated cycle of rework. Think what would happen if all groups were able to work through their views together and benefit from the perspectives offered by the others. This collaboration is the core principle driving our Rapid Design Workshops.
As the project begins, Vangent will conduct a Rapid Design Workshop consisting of a two-day, in-person collaborative session between the Vangent instructional designers, subject matter experts (SMEs), the client, and other stakeholders. Typically, the session is conducted at client facilities, but if desired, a Vangent location may be used. The purpose of the workshop is to ensure collaborative involvement of all involved parties in a real-time situation. This highly participatory session will ensure that all parties’ input is heard and considered. This in-depth discussion and dynamic involvement significantly enhances the analysis process. Within this session, ideas are offered and often lead to the generation of additional thoughts or suggestions, leading to higher quality results. Vangent Instructional Designers will guide the discussions to focus on several key areas of the learning:
- Audience characteristics and expectations
- Goal
- Learning objectives
- Strategies to present the information in an interesting and engaging manner
- Structure and topic flow
- Content gaps and resources
- Visual and media elements
- Evaluation strategies (e.g. pre/post tests)
When compared to a traditional analysis and design process, the Rapid Design Works shop offers significant benefits. These benefits include:
- Facilitates flexibility and openness toward ideas
- Enhances results via sharing of perspectives in real-time
- Ensures collaboration
- Involves direct input from team
- Builds Consensus
- Ensures team members share a common vision and vocabulary
- Improves risk mitigation planning
- Ensures stakeholder buy-in, Minimises rework
- Identifies issues or gaps in content earlier in the process
- Establishes strong relationships for addressing and resolving problems
- Provides clear direction for moving forward
- Reduces analysis and design time
